Holy Shit! Kevin Costner Is Awesome!

In absolutely the most bizarre news I've heard ever, Kevin Costner is helping to clean up the BP oil spill off the Gulf of Mexico.  But not by donating cash or taking some pictures.  Homeboy helped develop a machine to clean up the oil!

Seriously!  He bought new centrifugal oil separators from the government to  privatize the technology, investing $24 million of his own money.

BP has approved six of the machines for testing and should be in the water ASAP.  Costner was inspired by the Exxon Valdez spill in 1989 for the purpose of cleaning up future oil spills.

While the separation technology for these machines already existed, Costner and his brother, a scientist, with help from his business partner, worked personally to improve it's speed and efficiency.

Costner has long been an environmentalist and avid fisherman.

And you thought Kevin was sitting around cashing his Waterworld checks and whipping golf balls at Russell Crowe's pictures.  Nope, just saving the world.  One oil spill at a time.

Alright, I've given Kevin his props, so now I have to make fun of him.  Here he is looking like your dad at karaoke, playing with his Modern West Band in Madrid back on February 20th.  Nice haircut, Kev!
